My paintings are typically modeled from photographs. The first step is to draw the image with only the basic elements. To remain true to the inspirational spark, all superfluous embellishments are eliminated, revealing the aspect of the scene that prompted me to take the photo. Once I have established the key elements, I add the necessary components to enhance the theme and balance the painting’s structure. I employ Precisionism techniques in my method; however, the work aspires to the tenet of Japanese Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less.
